When Mizzou recognizes its seniors, a defensive back will be missing.

Beat reporters shared the team’s announcement that cornerback Adam Sparks has opted out for the rest of the season. Sparks was set to participate in Saturday’s Senior Day festivities, but no longer will.

The team announcement did not specify any further plans for Sparks. Due to the 2020 pandemic, all college football players are able to return for 2021 with the same eligibility they had entering this fall, meaning Sparks could potentially play next fall.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana-native is coming off of a 2019 season in which he played in 11 games as a junior, posting 17 tackles (14 solo) with 2.5 tackles for loss, one pass deflection and a forced fumble. This season, he played in five games, recording 10 total tackles. Sparks last played in the Florida game on Oct. 31.

The former 3-star class of 2017 prospect has played in 37 games over the past four seasons, having not yet used his redshirt season.
