Mizzou defensive coordinator Blake Baker is scheming to play some familiar faces. The Tigers open the 2022 season on Thursday against Louisiana Tech, where Baker used to be an assistant coach.
Speaking to the media Sunday, Baker acknowledged that the familiarity could be helpful in the Week 1 game Thursday in Columbia (7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET, ESPNU).
#Mizzou DC Blake Baker is speaking to media. He said there are still some guys on the LA Tech roster who played when he coached there or that his staff recruited, so that helps, but it’s hard to say what they’re gonna be.

Baker is in his first season at Mizzou. The 40-year-old played at Tulane from 2000-to-2004 and has been in coaching since 2009.
From 2014-to-2018, Baker was on staff at Louisiana Tech. He coached the safeties in the 2014 season before taking on the roles of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 2015. After the 2018 season, he left La. Tech for the defensive coordinator position at Miami.
Baker joined the Mizzou staff in January of this year. He previously worked alongside Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz at Arkansas State in 2013.
