Mizzou DL Darius Robinson can be counted among those who believe Hendon Hooker belonged in New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
The Tiger lineman was asked about the best opposing player he faced in 2022. Robinson told ESPN’s Chris Low that Hooker was the best player he faced. MU’s 2022 schedule included the 7 other SEC East teams along with Louisiana Tech, Kansas State, Abilene Christian, Auburn, New Mexico State, Arkansas and Wake Forest.
Missouri DL Darius Robinson said former @Vol_Football QB Hendon Hooker was the best player he faced last season and should have been a major contender for the Heisman Trophy. “I know the media picks it, but we as players play against these guys. … The film doesn’t lie.”

Hooker boosted his Heisman candidacy in Tennessee’s 66-24 win over Mizzou in Knoxville. The former UT quarterback was 25-of-35 passing for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing 8 times for 66 yards and 1 score. The Mizzou defense did manage 4 sacks of Hooker in the game.
Hooker’s exclusion led to a heated debate in the college football world. The final 4 for the 2022 Heisman Trophy were Caleb Williams, Stetson Bennet, Max Duggan and C.J. Stroud. Williams won the award.
