Eli Drinkwitz said he gave the media an early Christmas gift on Wednesday by letting reporters talk to quarterbacks Tyler Macon and Brady Cook amid the ongoing competition.

Missouri, for perspective, was rumored to have some interest in Arizona State QB Jayden Daniels, who ultimately transferred to LSU. And Georgia QB JT Daniels remains uncommitted.

“Brady’s my brother. He’s part of the Mizzou football team, so it’s all love,” said Macon, a redshirt freshman, in his first interview at Mizzou, per the Post-Dispatch. “He makes me better. I make him better.”

Added Cook, “We’re brothers, and we love competing. Me and him have been competing our whole lives. So this isn’t anything new. It’s not personal. It’s a blast.”

Put simply, Macon said the best player is going to play, and he’ll leave that in the coaches’ hands.

Cook reflected on his play in the Armed Forces Bowl, which was his most extensive playing time of the season, and when he helped the Tigers on a late go-ahead touchdown pass.

“I was impressed with some things I did,” said Cook, who last year completed 46 of 58 passes for 345 yards and 2 touchdowns. “I just saw it as a huge learning experience and just a great opportunity. It was some of the most fun I’ve had playing football. I was super excited about it. But I moved on pretty quick and excited about what’s to come.”

Macon played in 4 games, and got extended action in a loss at Georgia with Cook while Connor Bazelak was injured. Overall last year, he completed 9 of 17 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.

“Really we’re just trying to see who’s the playmaker of the offense,” Macon said. “We’ve got a lot of guys who could really go at the receiver position. So really the main focus is individual player development, just giving those guys the ball and giving them a chance to show their talents.”
