Mullen talks four-way QB competition after first South Farm practice

Mississippi State moved its preseason practices to the South Farm on Saturday, which signifies the real start of Bulldogs fall camp to many people.
When coach Dan Mullen met with reporters after practice, he was asked if it’s still too early to see separation in the four-way quarterback competition.
“Yeah because we are in installation,” Mullen told reporters. “You can take a rack out there where you are with a true freshman offensive lineman and receivers and three of your six plays you have guys that went the wrong way. You evaluate that for what it’s worth. But we got to get through installation and then once it is all in, it’s who performs well.”
Mullen hopes to see separation soon, but will plan accordingly if it remains a four-man race heading into MSU’s season opener against South Alabama, potentially getting all four quarterbacks in-game snaps.
“Anything is possible and I’m never against thinking outside the box,” Mullen said. “I’ve never been that way but I would love to have it narrowed down and sorted by game week. It doesn’t mean it is going to stay that way but I’d rather go into game week and say this guy is going to be the starter and go from there.”
If all else fails, there’s always rock-paper-scissors to decide the starter.
