Multiple members of Army football program hospitalized for drug overdose on spring break, per report

Multiple members of the Army football program were among a group of 6 students hospitalized in Florida after overdosing on fentanyl-laced cocaine, according to reports. Five of the students remain hospitalized as of Friday. They were in Wilton Manors, Florida, a Broward County city in the Ft. Lauderdale area, on spring break.
Army provided a statement to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The Sentinel’s story, which is currently subscriber-only, has been aggregated by CBS Sports.
“The U.S. Military Academy is aware of the situation involving West Point cadets, which occurred Thursday night in Wilton Manors, FL,” Army said a statement to the Sun-Sentinel. “The incident is currently under investigation and no other details are available at this time.”
Per CBS Sports, the students were found unconscious. After being hospitalized, 2 of them remain in critical condition and on ventilators, while 3 are in stable condition and 1 has been released. The CBS article details that 2 of the students suffered from cardiac shortly after using the drug. Sadly, the fentanyl overdoses include 2 students who were not using the laced drugs, according to the report. They ingested fentanyl while trying to revive others via mouth-to-mouth, and also overdosed.
Per CBS Sports, the Army students’ identities were not released.
