South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was the second coach to speak to the media during the SEC’s 2017 spring meetings in Destin, Fla. The Gamecock coach shared his thoughts on a number of topics during his short media availability, including the hot topic within the league of graduate transfers and why he would have mixed feelings on moving Auburn to the East division.

Muschamp on graduate transfers:

“Let’s don’t be naive, there’s a lot of communication that goes on that’s not totally above water. If a young man doesn’t want to be on your campus, I don’t know if you want him on your campus. If he wants to go somewhere else and it’s done the right way, I don’t have any problem with that.”

Muschamp on the talk of Auburn moving to the SEC East:

“I think one of the things the league is trying to protect is the great rivalries we do have. Unfortunately, we’ve gotten away from some of those rivalries. Auburn-Florida is a great rivalry, Auburn-Tennessee was a great rivalry, there are a lot of things we got away from, in my opinion. I don’t want to get away from those types of rivalries. I think that every year, you need to see certain rivalries. I still want to see division champions every year.

“I think A&M and Texas should play, personally. I think that’s a great college football game, a wonderful game. It would be great for the state of Texas, whether it was on Thanksgiving or the Saturday after, it’s a great game for the state of Texas.”

Muschamp on the impact the early signing period would have had on his team last year:

“We probably would have had 13-14 guys sign in December (if there was an early signing period). I can’t speak for anyone else, that’s what it would have been for us.”
