Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns were far from their best against the New England Patriots during a Week 8 game in Foxborough.

That wasn’t for lack of trying on Garrett’s part.

Garrett had an explosive Sunday, even by his standards. His 4th-quarter sack of Drake Maye gave him 5.0 on the afternoon. That broke a single-game Browns record set by, naturally, Garrett himself in September 2021.

Here’s video of the sack:

It goes down as only the 20th time in NFL history a player has finished a game with at least 5.0 sacks. It was the first such performance since Khalil Mack totaled 6.0 sacks with the Los Angeles Chargers on October 1, 2023. The single-game record for sacks is 7.0, set by Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas in 1990.

Garrett started the day with 5.0 sacks. He doubled that total on Sunday while also taking over the NFL lead in that department. It’s also Garrett’s eighth straight season with double-digit sacks. And, with nine games to go, he’s on pace to surpass his career-best total of 16.0, set in 2021 and 2022.

The Browns have obviously struggled as a franchise for much of Garrett’s time in Cleveland. But that hasn’t stopped the Texas A&M great from becoming one of the league’s most dominant defensive players.
