Alabama RB Najee Harris opened the scoring in the SEC Championship Game with an eight-yard rushing touchdown, and that helped him start a solid first half in Atlanta.

It was a notable score for Harris as it was his 51st for the Crimson Tide in his career, which is the most in Alabama history. He passed Shaun Alexander in the record books. That rushing score also put him above Heisman Trophy winners Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry with his 43rd career rushing touchdown. He later scored on a passing touchdown, from 23 yards out as Alabama took a 28-10 lead.

Entering Saturday, Harris had 3,461 career rushing yards to rank third on the Alabama all-time list. He also had 11 100-plus yard games in his career, including six as a junior and four this season.

Harris’ decision to pass on the NFL Draft after last season has proven to be a good one.

The Antioch, California native also lived up the hype he had coming out of high school. Back then, Harris was the consensus top-rated player in the state of California, and the third-best prospect overall and No. 2 running back according to the 247Composite.
