Nate Oats weighs in on Alabama’s brutal nonconference slate: ‘That might’ve been a little too much to bite off’

The Alabama men’s basketball team has taken some major steps forward under Nate Oats.

However, this year’s nonconference slate is still eye-popping in terms of difficulty, as the Tide will face 3 of the 4 teams that made it to last year’s Final Four.

The Tide will face Gonzaga on Dec. 4, Houston on Dec. 11 and Baylor in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 29.

On Wednesday, Oats said the Tide may have bitten off more than they can chew with that schedule, but he’d rather face those kinds of challenges in the nonconference season than have an easy slate of games:

Alabama will officially tip off its 2021-22 campaign on Tuesday, Nov. 9, with a home game against Louisiana Tech. We’ll see if the Tide can again compete for an SEC title.
