NCAA sends schools recommendations about transfer windows, per report

The NCAA is working on details around transfer windows for each sport, and the college football category, which is in the fall sports space, is set to have 2 windows.
Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that the 60-day transfer windows would be 45 days after the championship segment, and then in the spring for 15 days after May 1. The transformation committee is co-chaired by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and Ohio athletic director Julie Cromer.
The NCAA last month explained that the recommendations are “intended to stabilize the transfer environment,” and would require “additional accountability” for schools that receive transfer students.
At this point, the NCAA’s transfer portal, which debuted in October 2018, doesn’t have specific windows for movement. The only deadline is that players must notify schools that they are entering the portal by May 1 of each academic year.
NCAA transformation committee sent schools some of the recommendations that will be made to the NCAA DI Board of Directors. Of most interest, specifics on the creation of 60-day transfer windows.

A next step is expected that the Division I Council for feedback will consider the matter at its July 20 meeting. The board could vote to approve the recommendations on Aug. 3.
