The Mississippi State Bulldogs took a big hit during the Egg Bowl when star QB Nick Fitzgerald went down with an ankle/leg injury.

However, he’s already back at practice and appears to be working his way back to full strength.

After the Bulldogs’ third spring practice on Saturday, he said in a release from the school that he is happy to be back out on the field:

“It feels good. I’m glad to be out here again. It feels great. Obviously, I love football. I love being out here. Sitting on the couch wasn’t for me.”

He added that he’s doing as much as possible, but hasn’t yet faced a live rush:

“I do everything at practice when there is not a live rush. Anytime that we go against the defense where there is going to be a live rush, it’s not worth the risk of getting rolled up on. I would rather get mental reps and make sure I get a lot of work over the summer. I understand it. I am making sure I get my mental reps, that way physically when it catches up, I will be ready to go.”

As far as his timeline for being at 100 percent again, Fitzgerald said he expects to be ready to go without limitations in August:

“You get sore a little after practice. You get ice, but other than that, I haven’t had any pain, and I am feeling really good. I’ll be 100 percent by August.”

That’s obviously great news for new coach Joe Moorhead and his staff. While Keytaon Thompson showed that he has the potential to be great during last year’s bowl game, Fitzgerald is one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC.
