Jalen Hurts, along with Tua Tagoviloa and Joe Burrow, is the talk of college football.

Hurts’ numbers have been ridiculous through three games. He’s thrown for 880 yards, rushed for 373 yards and has combined for 13 total touchdowns. That’s why many currently have him as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.

However, perhaps the biggest thing he’s brought to OU has been his mentality. Having played under Nick Saban for three years, Hurts has a lot of Saban in him. He’s pushing his teammates to get better and his defense to get saltier. Even after torching Houston 49-31 in Week 1 and posting incredible numbers, Hurts knew that wasn’t good enough to win a championship. He was salty after the game.

On three other occasions during this season, Hurts has used Saban’s coined term of “rat poison.” The latest came when he called out Oklahoma’s Instagram account for posting about its electric offense.

On Wednesday during the SEC Coaches Teleconference, Saban was asked about Hurts using his term.

“I think Jalen is a really bright guy, I think he has come from a very successful program that we had to deal with a lot of positive accolades and stay motivated and not lose his humility or get complacent about how we are doing things,” Saban said. “We’ve learned some lessons here about that together. I just think he is a really bright guy, really a great competitor and he understands some of the issues if you don’t have the right mindset.”

Through four weeks, it appears that Oklahoma and Alabama may have a chance to play in the College Football Playoff, assuming both keep winning.
