Nick Saban is 70 years old, and for several years, rival coaches and recruiters have mentioned his retirement as a possibility. Word has gotten back to the Alabama coach, and it doesn’t sit well because he still enjoys coaching.
Saban spoke on the set of the SEC Network on Tuesday at SEC Media Days, and explained what working means to him.
“I love my job. I love the relationships with the players. I love the competition, I love the preparation for the games and I just love it,” Saban said. “I wish you all would ask all the other coaches that come up here, because they tell all the recruits I’m going to retire. Why don’t you ask them how they know I’m going to retire? When all I think about is what am I going to do if I retire, a’ight. I love what I’m doing now so how am I going to be happy not doing it.”
Saban is 183-25 in 15 years at Alabama, and has won 7 national championships at Alabama.
This year, the Crimson Tide are primed for a bounce-back season with 2 of the best players in college football in Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr. after they lost the national championship last season in Indianapolis against Georgia.
