Nick Saban sees potential for Michigan’s tight ends to give Alabama some trouble.

Chris Doering of SiriusXM asked Saban for an opposing position group of concern.

“I do think the tight ends present special issues becaue the guys guarding them sometimes aren’t the best cover guys, they’re in the game because they can stop the run.” Saban said to Doering. “And they do have really good tight ends and they utilize these tight ends in a lot of different ways, which create a lot of different challenges for you defensively in terms of what personnel do you play against them? How does that personnel match up?

“So this is going to be one of the things that’ll be critical for us that our players understand exactly what they need to do to match the receivers as well as their tight ends.”

Michigan TE Colston Loeveland is second on the team in receiving yards with 572 on 40 catches, with 4 touchdowns. Fellow U-M TE AJ Barner has 22 receptions for 249 yards and 1 score.

We’ll see how the matchup plays out on Monday. No. 4 Alabama faces No. 1 Michigan in the Rose Bowl, set to kickoff at 5 p.m. ET and air on ESPN.
