College GameDay has been the go-to pre-game college football show for most of America over the past 3 decades, and the legendary Lee Corso was a key part of what made the program so special over the years.
The GameDay mainstay stepped away from his College GameDay duties back in Week 1 in an emotional farewell, but the rest of the gang is still keeping his spirit alive and well in a number of different ways.
Legendary former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach and current GameDay analyst Nick Saban was the latest to pay homage to the now-retired Corso, and he did so by using one of his former colleagues’ most iconic sayings.
The moment came when the GameDay crew was making their predictions for who the winner of the WWE Wrestlapalooza main event will be later tonight between Brock Lesnar and John Cena. Pat McAfee put his pick in for Lesnar, and Saban followed up by dropping Corso’s iconic “Not so fast, my friend” line.
It’s moments like these that show just how beloved Corso still is around the sport, even if he is now retired. A legend of the game like Saban paying tribute to the longtime host of College GameDay is just a feel-good moment, and it’s part of why GameDay remains such a cornerstone of Saturday mornings in the fall for so many.
