Nick Saban was frustrated this week that Alabama slipped from its standard of play last week in a one-point win at Texas. But he was happy that the high standard returned on Saturday.
But following a 63-7 win over UL-Monroe, Saban saw Bryce Young pass for 3 touchdowns, rush for another, and Will Anderson Jr. even score on an interception return. Alabama piled up 509 total yards, and held the Warhawks to just 78 rushing yards.
Saban asked Alabama players to produce more explosive plays, and they responded with a school-record 262 punt return yards. It’s a record that stood since 1947. “It’s obviously good stuff,” Saban said.

“A lot of good things out there today. Started a little slow, but we made plays on offense. All in all, we made some progress.”

Saban on the return game: “I challenged the players that we need to do a better job of executing. … Today, the execution was a lot better and we were able to take advantage.”

Saban on freshman Tyler Booker, who played at LG and RG with the ones today: “I’ve got lots of confidence in him. He’s a young player who has played extremely well. I view him as a guy who’s competing for a starting position with the other two guys.”
