The college football world did not have to wait until Saturday to hear Nick Saban‘s reaction to Alabama‘s shocking Week 1 loss to Florida State.
Saban is in Chapel Hill on Monday night to contribute to ESPN’s coverage of North Carolina vs. TCU, the college debut for legendary coach Bill Belichick. Instead of College GameDay, ESPN has a live version of College Football Countdown inside Kenan Stadium with Saban, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Tedy Bruschi and others joining Matt Barrie. Saban was an assistant under Belichick with the Cleveland Browns.
The pregame show is focused on all things Belichick, but the Alabama-FSU game was briefly mentioned.
“Obviously for me, and for a lot of the Bama fans, the disappointment that Florida State dominated the line of scrimmage of both sides of the ball,” Saban said.
Saban maintained a positive outlook for Kalen DeBoer‘s team for the rest of the season.
“But the good news is every team has the best opportunity to improve from Week 1 to Week 2,” Saban said. “Because really going into the season, you don’t really know what you have for sure as a coach. You’re always very anxious about what you might happen in the first game.
“I’m sure they’re all disappointed — players, coaches alike. But they all do have a great chance to improve from Week 1 to Week 2. That’s when you make the biggest improvement.”
Alabama hosts ULM in Week 2 for the Crimson Tide’s home opener.
