Nick Saban shares hilarious Donald Trump story from Alabama visit to White House
When Nick Saban and his Alabama football team visited the White House to meet President Donald Trump in 2018, a scene took place that feels straight out of a cartoon.
During Alabama’s spring commencement ceremony on Thursday night, Saban shared a story from a 2018 trip to the Oval Office. Alabama was there to celebrate its 2017 national championship season, and 3 captains from that team accompanied Saban. That included linebacker Rashaan Evans.
“He’s got this very big, good-looking auspicious box on his desk that has a red button on top,” Saban said. “One of the players said, ‘Is that what you launch the missiles with?’ He said, ‘Well, push it and find out.’ The player said, ‘No I don’t want to do that.’ He says, ‘No, go ahead. Go ahead. Push it, see what happens, find out.'”
So, Evans steps up and presses the doomsday button.
No alarms sound. No missiles launch. Nothing disastrous happens. Instead…
“Some lady came in with a Coke on a tray,” Saban said, laughing.
The President visited Tuscaloosa on Thursday to deliver the commencement address to the spring 2025 graduating class at the University of Alabama. Saban introduced Trump and thanked the president for “making time to speak to our graduates.”
During his address, Trump said there’s no athletic program anywhere quite like the one at Alabama, and said the Crimson Tide football program “changed college football forever.”
