With his latest business venture, Nick Saban has extended his reach beyond the state of Alabama. If you missed the news, the Alabama coach recently opened a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Nashville. Aside from his new enterprise in the city, Saban has turned some heads when he adopted the city’s hockey team as his own.

The Predators have exploded in popularity in recent seasons, largely due to the post-season success of the team, and Saban found himself jumping on the bandwagon along with so many others this spring.

Saban made waves when he attended Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Nashville and instead of rooting for the Penguins, he wore a Predators jersey to the game.

During the opening of his Nashville car dealership, Saban explained why that decision cost him some grief back home in West Virginia in a video posted by The Tennessean.

“I don’t think anybody knows the sacrifice that I had to make because I grew up in West Virginia, 100 miles south of Pittsburgh and everyone I know is a Penguins fan,” Saban admitted. “So when I took that picture with that Predators shirt on, that was not only a commitment, that was conviction to the team because I was going to catch it when all my friends saw that and I certainly did.”

Saban’s friends and family back home got the last laugh, as the Penguins won the series over the Predators in six games.
