Notre Dame denied CFP berth: Fans react to Fighting Irish being left out of College Football Playoff

Notre Dame, despite being ranked 10th in last week’s penultimate College Football Playoff rankings, has been left out of the College Football Playoff.
At the end of the day, one of Notre Dame, Miami or Alabama was always going to walk away from Sunday’s selection show unhappy. There are 12 spots at the table and a legitimate argument to be made for all 3 teams mentioned above. According to the CFP Selection Show broadcast on ESPN, the selection committee stayed up until 2:30 in the morning (CT) debating the inclusion arguments for the Hurricanes, Crimson Tide and Fighting Irish.
Unfortunately for Notre Dame, the debate didn’t go their way.
As you can imagine, Irish fans from across the country are absolutely furious with the outcome, while others are praising the committee for the decision. The argument from Notre Dame fans stems from the fact that Notre Dame fell several spots across the last few weeks despite both the Irish and Hurricanes not playing on Saturday. Opponents of Notre Dame reaching the 12-team field pointed out that Miami beat Notre Dame earlier in the season, and that the Hurricanes and Alabama Crimson Tide possess better wins than the Irish.
Another argument for Notre Dame is more towards the format for this year’s 12-team field. Some argue that the Irish are considerably better than both Tulane and James Madison, who made the field as the highest rated conference champions with 8-5 Duke being the ACC Champion.
Here’s a look at some of the best reaction to Notre Dame missing the College Football Playoff.
