The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have always been tremendous developers of offensive line talent. Their (relatively) recent first-round NFL Draft picks — Ronnie Stanley, Mike McGlinchey, Joe Alt, Quenton Nelson, Zach Martin — are a who’s who of professional studs. On Wednesday, the Fighting Irish landed a player who could follow in their footsteps.

According to On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett, 4-star offensive lineman James Halter has committed to Notre Dame. The Pittsburgh native had offers from Penn State and Ohio State, among others, but decided South Bend was the place for him.

Halter, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound recruit, is listed as an offensive tackle in 247 Sports’ Composite rankings. The comprehensive rankings list him as the No. 122 overall player in the 2027 class, the No. 12 offensive tackle, and the No. 6 player from Pennsylvania.

Halter took to social media with a reaction of his own shortly after Fawcett announced the news.

Notre Dame now has 5 commits for 2027. Halter is the only offensive lineman of that quintet. He, quarterback Teddy Jarrard, defensive lineman Richie Flanigan, linebacker Ellis McGaskin, and long snapper Sean Kraft have the Fighting Irish boasting the fourth-best 2027 recruiting class, per 247 Sports’ Composite rankings.

Only Oklahoma, Sacramento State, and Syracuse are ahead of Notre Dame at this moment.
