The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have one of the largest fan bases in the nation, and they boast several celebrities among their supporters.
One of the biggest names they have supporting them on game days in the fall is comedian and actor Shane Gillis, who has long been a massive fan of the Fighting Irish.
He’s been spotted numerous times sporting Notre Dame gear in public and was even featured in a hilarious new ad with Irish head coach Marcus Freeman that debuted earlier this week.
Gillis’ support of the iconic university was displayed yet again on Friday afternoon when the Golden Domers released an availability report for their season opener against No. 10 Miami this Sunday.
It featured everything one would expect as well as something a little out of the ordinary: Gillis was listed as out for the game against the Canes. The reason why? Tailgating.
If there’s one thing Gillis would end up missing a game for, it would be for tailgating, so it’s honestly a pretty hilarious addition to see that the team added him to the injury report.
It will be interesting to see if the Irish can manage to pull out the win while missing such a massive piece of their roster, but Gillis will certainly be offering some much-needed moral support to his favorite team regardless of the outcome.
The sixth-ranked Irish face the Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC on Sunday. At bet365, Notre Dame is a 2.5-point favorite.
