Oklahoma added a new opponent to its future schedule.

FBschedules.com reported Monday that Oklahoma will host Utah State on Sept. 4, 2027. The site obtained Utah State’s copy of the game contract via public records, showing that the Aggies are guaranteed to be compensated $1.5 million for their trip to Norman.

OU and Utah State have played five times from 1972 to 2010, with the Sooners going 5-0 in those meetings. The Aggies have been a member of the Mountain West since 2013.

In July, the program fired head coach Blake Anderson following an internal investigation that found he contacted a potential domestic violence victim and a witness to the incident after an Aggies football player was arrested.

Anderson posted a 23-17 record in three seasons. Defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling is serving as the program’s interim head coach in 2024.

SEC schedule not yet set for 2026, beyond

SEC programs’ nonconference scheduling moves are receiving extra attention as 2026 and beyond remains uncertain.

With the addition of Oklahoma and Texas, the SEC first announced a one-off schedule for the 2024 season. Then it was announced that teams would play the same conference opponents in 2025.

The SEC’s scheduling plan for 2026 and beyond has not yet been announced. There is increasing speculation that the SEC will move from eight conference games to nine.

Recent announcements have helped fuel the speculation that the move to nine conference games is coming. Over the past few weeks, Auburn (UCLA), Florida (Cal), Georgia (UCLA) and Ole Miss (USC) have all removed previously-announced prominent nonconference opponents from future schedules.

If the SEC moves to nine conference games for 2026 and beyond, Oklahoma has a couple of future schedules set. Utah State joins SMU and San Diego State on the 2027 schedule to give OU three nonconference opponents. The Sooners have also scheduled three nonconference foes – UTEP, Michigan and New Mexico – for the 2026 season.
