Oklahoma’s immediate focus is on spring football and the 2026 season, but Brent Venables‘ program got a big-time recruiting boost for the 2027 season on Saturday afternoon.
And the recruiting victory came at arguably the most important position on the field, with 4-sar quarterback Jamison Roberts committing to Oklahoma. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound phenom is from Mobile, so he hails from SEC country and is now ticketed for a powerhouse SEC program, just not one in his home state of Alabama. Roberts told On3”s Hayes Fawcett of his decision to head to Norman instead of staying home.
The Saraland High School star chose Oklahoma over a slew of SEC rivals, with Auburn in the mix as well as Georgia and Florida.
“From The Land to The Palace, Sooner Nation I’m home!” wrote Roberts on social media after making his decision.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Roberts is ranked 289th among the prospects in the Class of 2027. Roberts is also the 22nd-ranked quarterback right now in those Composite rankings, and he’s the 15th-ranked player from the state of Alabama, so Oklahoma has managed to lure a possible future star from a rival SEC state.
Roberts is coming off a historical 2025 season for Saraland. He’s a dual-threat signal-caller who threw for 3,370 yards and 37 touchdowns last fall, while completing 73% of his passes and only throwing 5 interceptions.
If those passing stats weren’t impressive enough, Roberts did major damage on the ground, too, rushing for 641 yards and 21 more TDs. He finished with a stunning quarterback rating of 142.4.
Roberts’ efforts helped lead Saraland to a 13-1 record and a spot in the Class 6A state championship game.
Roberts won’t be in Norman until the 2027 season to try to help the Sooners get to the College Football Playoff, but here is what Kalshi currently thinks of the contenders for the 2026 CFP:
