Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced some unfortunate news on Monday in his weekly press conference.

One of the Volunteers’ prized offensive linemen, Jack Jones, is done with the sport of football because of recurring neck/shoulder injuries.

The veteran lineman thanked UT and the Vols’ coaching staff on social media, “for allowing me to play the game I have loved my entire life for my home state.”

Jones said after consulting with UT doctors and a spine specialist, it was made clear that for his long-term health, he should give up the game.

He thanked and professed his love and appreciation for not just the coaches, but equipment staff, advisors, teammates — and of course — the Tennessee fan base.

“To Vol Nation, there is no other fan base like you in the world … how you bring Neyland to life on game day is indescribable.”

Here’s the full excerpt from Jones, which he posted on Twitter Monday night:

Jones, now a junior, signed with Tennessee in 2015. He made 10 career starts, including three at left guard this season.
