Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was officially denied a sixth year of eligibility on Friday by the NCAA. Though Chambliss and his legal team appear prepared to fight that ruling in court, Ole Miss is now tasked with finding a new starting quarterback in the event the NCAA’s ruling holds.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Ole Miss is now expected to land Auburn transfer Deuce Knight.

Knight was a 5-star recruit out of the 2025 class. Ole Miss pursued him when Lane Kiffin was running the program, but Knight committed to Hugh Freeze and Auburn to begin his career.

Auburn eventually settled on Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold as its starting quarterback to open the 2025 season. When Arnold struggled, Auburn turned to Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels. It wasn’t until Daniels sat out to preserve redshirt eligibility that Knight got a chance to start.

But, when he entered the starting lineup against Mercer on Nov. 22, Knight quickly made Auburn history. In just his second-ever appearance and his first career start, Knight threw for 239 yards and ran for 162 yards while tying a program record with 6 touchdowns (4 rushing, 2 passing).

Knight’s 162 rushing yards were the most in a game by an Auburn quarterback since 2013. His 4 rushing scores tied for the fourth-most by an Auburn player in program history, and tied for the third-most by an SEC quarterback since 1995.

Knight did not play in another game after that. He revealed his plans to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 30, 1 month after Auburn named Alex Golesh as its head coach.
