Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss earns national Player of the Week honor

When the Ole Miss Rebels saw their star sophomore quarterback, Austin Simmons, limp off the field this past weekend after tweaking his ankle against the Arkansas Razorbacks, many assumed that the game was lost.

Fortunately for the Rebels, though, head coach Lane Kiffin had an ace up his sleeve in the form of veteran backup Trinidad Chambliss, and the upperclassman answered the bell and then some when he was forced to enter the game against the Razorbacks in the first quarter.

Chambliss lit up the Arkansas defense, completing 25 of his 35 passes for 412 yards and 2 touchdowns, leading Ole Miss to the come-from-behind victory against their hated in-conference rivals. Ole Miss is now No. 13 in the AP Top 25.

The elite performance Chambliss put in not only helped push the Rebels to 3-0 on the season, but it also nabbed him some national respect as well, as he was just named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week.

Chambliss arrived in Oxford this past summer via the transfer portal after spending the past 4 seasons as a member of the Ferris State Bulldogs, and was never really expected to be more than a backup.

Football is a violent sport, though, and when injuries forced the fifth-year senior into action, he more than delivered against the Razorbacks, and will likely continue to do so should Simmons be forced to miss more time.
