Ole Miss is experiencing some roster turnover for Kermit Davis’ program as a key guard has reportedly entered the transfer portal.

Jarkel Joiner, who led the Rebels in scoring this past season at 13.2 points per game, will enter the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. Joiner appeared in 22 games, and started 17. Though he participated in Senior Day activities, he told the Clarion-Ledger at the time that it wasn’t goodbye, though there’s a belief that he would have tested the NBA Draft waters earlier this offseason.

He missed 10 games with injury or illness and admitted that he wasn’t at 100 percent after a midseason procedure to heal a back injury. At times, Joiner has been an elite guard in the SEC, such as when he scored 20 points against Memphis, 33 points against Alabama or 18 against South Carolina on a night he didn’t know he had the flu.

Originally from Oxford High School, Joiner spent his first 2 college seasons at Cal State Bakersfield, and started 61 of 64 games and set 7 school records. In 2019, he transferred back home to Ole Miss and sat out a season because of NCAA transfer rules.

In early March, his thinking was toward the NBA, or a return to the Rebels.

“(Davis and I) talked about that before the season in the summer,” Joiner said. “He said he wanted me to go test the waters in the evaluation thing and see where Iโ€™m at. If I donโ€™t get what I want and itโ€™s not what weโ€™re looking for, Iโ€™ll come back.”
