Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II had a breakout game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The rookie from Alabama recorded a pair of interceptions in the 4th quarter, 1 that was returned for a touchdown, as the Broncos defeated the Chargers 28-13. They, L.A., and the Las Vegas Raiders are all a half-game behind the Kansas City Chiefs in a jam-packed AFC West.
Surtain had some familiar faces in the stands: his parents traveled from their home in South Florida to take in the game. In fact, following one of his interceptions, he gave the ball to his father, 3-time Pro Bowl DB Patrick Surtain Sr.
“It was a special moment,” Surtain II said. “We always talk about this, making big plays, but I knew the 2nd pick of my season, I was going to give it to my parents, either my dad or my mom. So it’s going to be a special feeling regardless. I know they (were) proud of me, and I was excited to give them the ball.”
Denver next takes the field for “Sunday Night Football” as they visit the Chiefs on NBC on Dec. 5.
