Paul Finebaum believes TCU should not lose a spot because the Horned Frogs are in a championship game this week, and Ohio State is not.
It’s one of the popular debates this week across college football, and Finebaum shared his latest thoughts on ESPN’s “First Take.”
“It’s happened before a couple years ago, Alabama they got in when they did not play for the championship,” Finebaum said. “Southern Cal will drop out because it will be the second straight loss.”
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo doesn’t agree with Finebaum, and believes if TCU loses, it’s out of the Playoff. Russo said the big question now is between Ohio State and Alabama if TCU or USC lose. Russo would take Alabama, but believes the committee would take Ohio State.
Stephen A. Smith then went on a TCU monologue and sent the Horned Frogs a message: “If you want to be in the Playoff, you better win this game. TCU, handle your business. Then we can’t say nothing because you’d be undefeated and you’d deserve to be there. You don’t, you’d be out.”
About Ohio State, Smith said, “They did not lose, they got their ass kicked, there’s a difference. … You do not lose like that on your home turf and get to be in the Playoffs, and get to have a second shot.”
Finebaum responded and said that Smith gave a lot of “sound and fury” but the committee has already spoken by ranking Ohio State over Alabama on Tuesday night.
“You guys have just made 2 wonderful speeches about Alabama, and it doesn’t matter,” Finebaum said.
