Paul Finebaum explains why he’s all-in on Alabama being ‘back’ after win at Georgia

ESPN host and college football pundit Paul Finebaum certainly knows the pulse of college football in Alabama, and he wasn’t shy Sunday morning talking about his current thoughts on the Alabama program after Saturday night’s 24-21 victory at No. 5 Georgia.
“I’m already hearing ‘Roll Tide’ tomorrow afternoon on the Finebaum show. Alabama fans are back. Alabama is back,” Finebaum said during an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “And listen, it was easy to write them off a month ago. That Florida State game took a shot the other night when Virginia won.
“But still, it’s just extraordinary to watch Kalen DeBoer bring this team back. Ty Simpson is elite at quarterback. He’s now in the Heisman race and we weren’t even sure he’d start the third game of the season.”
Overlooking that Finebaum was probably at the head of the “writing off Alabama a month ago” parade following the Crimson Tide’s 31-17 season-opening loss at Florida State, the opinion was well earned after Alabama snapped Georgia’s 33-game home winning streak. That was the longest active streak among FBS schools and included 10 wins against Top 25 teams.
Simpson was stellar against the Bulldogs, throwing for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns and running for another. Alabama doesn’t have any time to rest on its laurels, though, as resurgent Vanderbilt visits Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
