LSU scored a massive road win at No. 4 Clemson to kick off the 2025 regular season, winning the season opener for the first time since the magical 2019 season.
Week 2 didn’t go as well. The Tigers won, sure, but a 23-7 win at Death Valley over Louisiana Tech is hardly anything to puff your chest out about. Still, a win is a win, as they say.
On ESPN’s SportsCenter on Sunday morning, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum lauded LSU‘s win over Clemson as the reason why he thinks Brian Kelly‘s squad is the best in the nation:
“I’m in on LSU right now, guys,” Finebaum said. “They are the best team in the country because they have the most significant win. There have been some good wins in the SEC this year, including Mississippi State last week. I’m not ready to move them (the Bulldogs) up, but I am ready to put LSU for now. … Count me in.”
Of course, things get much more difficult in a hurry for LSU. The Bayou Bengals host Florida next weekend and then take a trip to Ole Miss on Sept. 27 before their first bye week of the season. We’ll see if Kelly and company can keep the good times rolling.
