Paul Finebaum hasn’t forgotten about Ole Miss.

Amid the chaos of Week 8, the Rebels sat and stewed in the aftermath of their Week 7 overtime loss at LSU. Ole Miss dropped to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the SEC, and then it was forced to sit on that gut-wrenching loss for a while as it had a bye last week.

But Finebaum still believes there is a path to the Playoff for Lane Kiffin’s team. During his weekly Monday morning appearance on the “McElroy & Cubelic In The Morning” show, the ESPN college football analyst discussed the 18th-ranked Rebels as they get back into action in Week 9 with a home game against struggling Oklahoma.

“The Texas A&M-LSU situation, it won’t clear one out this weekend, but it certainly will put one in a precarious position. But Ole Miss is still sitting there, and the Georgia game (on Nov. 9) has taken on a different complexity now because it is no longer probably going to be do-or-die for Georgia,” said Finebaum. “That’s not going to change the game, but it changes the urgency of the Dawgs. As soon as I say that, (Georgia) has Tennessee the next week, so all of that is somewhat moot depending on the outcome.”

Ole Miss probably has no margin for error now, but it’s still breathing, according to Finebaum.

“Ole Miss is probably the most intriguing team left,” he said. “I am fascinated by the SEC this year because we’ve never had this before. We’ve had so many SEC championships that were pre-determined by mid-October. And right now, it is a jumbled mess.”
