Paul Finebaum is not jumping to conclusions about the state of the Alabama program given the slew of players leaving the program, including high-profile moves.

“It’s always alarming when you see marquee players walk out, and it’d be difficult to find a bigger name than Caleb Downs, or Julian Sayin,” Finebaum said on Monday’s “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama. “So I understand the reaction. The problem I think with making rash generalizations is this is, we’re in the middle of this. Nobody knows exactly how it’s going to land and really how this roster is going to look like.”

Finebaum added that there’s not an easy answer to the team being a national championship contender, of even a College Football Playoff team — until the dust settles.

“We’re barely 8, 9, 10 days into this process,” he said. “I think anybody who wants to declare anything is simply not using enough data.”

Both Downs and Sayin each committed to Ohio State in recent days.
