The Florida Gators suffered a stunning 18-16 home loss to unranked USF on Saturday night in The Swamp.

It was the first time since the FDR administration that a non-Miami, non-Florida State opponent from the state of Florida came to Gainesville and won. That’s… well, I said it in the first paragraph… stunning.

There’s another word to use for the showing, and that word is “disaster.” It was a disaster for head coach Billy Napier, who now suddenly finds himself back on the hot seat.

On Sunday morning’s SportsCenter, Paul Finebaum reacted to Florida’s loss, basically saying this team has no chance at the Playoff now:

“Did you ask me if last night ended their Playoff hopes or the next 4 games?” Finebaum joked with the SportsCenter anchors. “Because last night put them underground. … This team is one in turmoil. Look at this, What kind of schedule did they get? They scheduled Miami and FSU as nonconference and USF, they already lost that. There doesn’t look to be any light at the end of the tunnel. … Do you smell a .500 or losing record for Billy Napier?”

The schedule Finebaum referenced includes a game against LSU next weekend, followed by Miami, a bye week, Texas and Texas A&M. That’s brutal. And that doesn’t include games against Georgia, Ole Miss and Florida State later in the year.

Can Florida right the ship and challenge for a Playoff spot? With a schedule like that, it doesn’t look good.
