Paul Finebaum resets realistic number of Playoff spots for the SEC through Week 3

Paul Finebaum heard the comments from Urban Meyer on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, where the former Florida and Ohio State coach said he thinks that potentially 7 teams from the SEC could make the College Football Playoff.

While Finebaum thinks the SEC will be well-represented in the CFP, he doesn’t think 7 is a realistic number.

“I’m still going to stick with 4 because we can’t get hung up on the moment, and I think too often we do,” Finebaum said on the McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning . “Things start to happen. I think 4 is conservative, 5 is possible, 7 is unrealistic. I think what Urban’s really saying there is there’s not many schools in the league (FOX) is covering here that are ultimately worthy, and I think that’s the message. But I’ll stay with 4.”

There is no doubt that the SEC is once again looking like the power conference in college football, and it is being shown in the newest AP Top 25 poll.

Of the top 7 teams in the poll, only Ohio State at No. 3 is not from the SEC. The top 7 goes Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Missouri, giving the SEC 6 of the top 7 spots in the entire country.

Oklahoma and LSU come in at No. 15 and No. 16, while Texas A&M is back in the poll at No. 25.
