AP Top 25: New Week 4 poll includes 9 SEC teams
The AP Top 25 for Week 4 has been released.
The SEC has 9 teams included in the poll this week, up from 8 in Week 3. Texas A&M — who received votes last week — jumped back in at No. 25 for Week 4 after its dominant win in The Swamp over the weekend.
Georgia lost the No. 1 spot in the AP poll this week after its 13-12 win over Kentucky. Texas jumped over the Bulldogs to claim the No. 1 ranking for the first time since the 2008 season.
The SEC still owns 6 of the top 7 spots in the poll, with Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Missouri filing in after Ohio State at No. 3 overall.
Elsewhere down the board, Oklahoma retained the No. 15 spot while LSU stuck at No. 16 in the polls this week. The Sooners struggled at home against Tulane in Week 3 while the Tigers picked up a close SEC road win at South Carolina.
The Big Ten earned 7 spots in the top 25 this week. It was a relatively quiet slate for the league, as top teams like No. 3 Ohio State, No. 10 Penn State and No. 11 USC were idle.
No. 9 Oregon had its biggest win of the season, however, in Week 3. The Ducks crushed rival Oregon State on the road 49-14. Michigan had another inconsistent performance, but defeated Arkansas State rather easily in the end.
Toward the end of the poll, Nebraska retained its top 25 spot at No. 22 after not playing in Week 3. Illinois jumped into the top 25 this week at No. 24.

Tennesse leaping Mizzou is dumb. They put up 70 on a nobody, signature win is an NC state team that will end up with 4 wins. One dimensional team like last year. Stop the run and force lamaleave to throw and they’re done. Wait til they have to face a decent Dline. Overhyped as always
I’m fine with leaving UT as low as possible but did you watch your team? Zero discipline, poor blocking, bad qb play-all of which were reflected in the box score. I’m not saying NCState is better than BC or UT is better than Mizzou, but if your team shows discipline and plays like a #6 team should at home, the voters don’t have a reason to bump UT. UT has obliterated the spread each game so far and is a huge road favorite for next week as a result. The Mizzou spread was -14.5 and the final should have reflected that. Instead, you had BC leading for almost the whole first half. Not a good sign when your best player is whining about the channel he’s on instead of talking about how his team needs to improve and play to their ranking. Focus on beating your opponents at or beyond the expected amount, especially at home, and you take away the argument for voters to rank others above you.
Nice…
We are witnessing the passing of the torch before our very eyes. Pac 12 Alabama has fallen. Georgia chokes. Vols are ascendant. The arc of reality bends toward normalcy. As we all move towards normalcy, our historical and rightful places are re-emerging. Georgia to 5-6th in the SEC. Pac 12 Alabama slightly above that and Tennessee on top. Tennessee will be ranked ahead of Pac 12 Alabama or Georgia this time next week. When you see it, you will know you are witnessing the passing of the torch BEFORE YOUR VERY OWN EYES!
Tennessee will be ranked ahead of Pac 12 Alabama or Georgia this time in 2 weeks.
Tennesse will be lucky to beat an over rated Oklahoma team. You have played some inferior competition and ran up the score . They will have 3 loses by the end of year as usual
What is running up the score? Most starters didn’t see a full half last night and TN ran it for 450+ yards and passed for less than 300. They also pulled starters vs NCSt and UTC. Did Mizzou run up the score in their first 2 games 51-0 and 38-0? I’m curious as to how UT is the only SEC team that runs up the score when it posts similar scores to what everyone else has done (especially when they’ve played their starting qb longer than UT)
The last 10 years 5-7 losses was “usual”. Now in your mind, a 9-3 record is usual. Vols are ascendant. Unfortunately for Vols, everyone they play is overrated after they play them, but the playoffs don’t care.
He has a point though. I don’t care if you score 100 on Chattanooga, NC State and Kent…it’s hard to take anything meaningful from that.
You missed the first sentence where I addressed that I’m ok with UT not moving up. Wait-you’re just an idiot and ignored it and the reasons I listed why Mizzou probably was moved down
Dawgs choked 1st half Clemson. Dawgs choked 1st half Kentucky. Dawgs choked 2nd half Kentucky. Is it really hard to take anything meaningful from that? Kirby Dumb isn’t that dumb.
A game is 4 quarters long. When you “choke” you are losing at the end of the 4th. See Tennessee-SC.
Yes, you are a 9-3, 10-2 on a good year team now. Welcome to the Marc Richt era
Been posting here 3 years. For 3 years you Vol idiots say the same BS. Then you disappear when you inevitably get beat. Maybe you can at least get over the Florida hump this year. Maybe.
Probably not though. The Vols LOL…They just aqren’t very good (but they are better than Kent State, so there is that!)
You’re scared and you know it. Lol. You fool…..
2 weeks. Who’s it going to be? Is it going to be you looking up at Vols?
Take notes Zou08, this is how you make a valid counterargument. Tenn passing us is valid. They look ah-mazing this year. This is NOT the same Tennessee we beat last year. We didn’t even put up those kind of numbers against Murray State.
That’s cuz we didn’t call an onside kick up 30…
Pish-posh, polls don’t matter til October anyway. Admittedly Vols destroyed two nobodies and an avg ACC team.
Reserving judgement until after road game to Norman.
Boston College is better than NC State though. This ain’t basketball season
Maybe. It doesn’t really bother me. What’s dumb is Notre Dame being ranked six spots above Northern Illinois.
Get rid of that rat poison and reality check. Good week. Now go get better!
This will all work its way out at the end. No big deal that UT is ahead one spot of Mizzou. UT eye test wise has simply looked more impressive. Will find out this week against OU what this UT team has got. Even Ole Miss being ahead of UT is not a big deal even though the Rebs have played literally no one.
Tennesse should beat The Sooners fairly easily. Ok is overrated. A better measuring stick won’t be til they play Bama.
No beef at all with TX, UGA, Bama, and TN’s rankings, all have good P4 wins. But 2-1 A+M is 25 because it defeated FLORIDA? Ole Miss because it defeated Wake Forest is 5? Mizzou is 7 with a win over a BC team in the top 25 because of a win over with a win over 0-3 FSU?
USC is 2-0 with a win over 16 LSU and it’s ranked behind MO. and Miss teams that have played thin air.
Will the loser of TN at OK fall one or 2 spots?
It doesn’t matter until the Committee’s final poll on 12/8/24 but it’s more ipso facto ranking of SEC teams that the meritorious SEC teams deserve and others do not.
Wasn’t TN’s P4 win an NC State that’s really no better than BC?
Tennessee sat their QB. You didn’t. That probably accounted for a few more votes if we are being honest.
Ranking football teams who play each other after a complete round robin conference is the only real ranking possible and it’s not perfect even after home and home sites rotate. The NCAA /members own their association ranking and can stop fake ranking. Why do you suppose they don’t do it? Could it be $$$$$$$$. ? Sure looks like fake ranking to me? The NCAA Division I National Championship is not a result of a seeded knock out tournament except in the Div III , Div.II AND FCS. LOL ….Everyone else (NAIA maybe also). You the ticket buyer and television programming purchasers are the targets of the _ _ _ _. Whatever’s you believe it is? As fans I think we can make this happen by attending other division/association games for one year. You WILL enjoy these games just as much…. Caution, you might not want to go back to the fleece you take at FBS. But even if you just talk about doing it a lot they will probably stop the “false labeling”, or whatever it is?
Tennessee would dismantle Mizzou if they played them this year, as I believe Georgia, Alabama, and even South Carolina will. BC should have beaten Mizzou yesterday. They were lucky to come away with a win. Mizzou has no business in the SEC. The SEC wanted Texas A&M and somehow Mizzou got added too. Missouri fans make me laugh with how they think they belong and that anyone else actually cares about them. They do have a cute little stadium though. I think it holds about 60k. Pretty sure you could fit that thing inside most the other SEC stadiums.
Scratch that, looks like Mizzou doesn’t play Georgia this year. They dodged that bullet.
Isn’t that cute? A vol fan talking smack already after playing nobody this year. Wow, “Our stadium is bigger than yours” argument. I remember last year when your “toothless-no shoe wearing-hillbilly” fans two-stepped their way “quietly” out of our small stadium last year.
And they didn’t even call you before they voted on that, wow, tragic!
I just hope you don’t ever realize how dumb your small minded summary of eleven figure plus business transactions reads here!
Yes, I do remember Tennessee losing to Missouri last year. I also remember Tennessee hanging 60 on Missouri the two years prior to that. We didn’t view beating Missouri as a big deal like you all did when you beat Tennessee last year. That game was clearly your Super Bowl last year. It was just a bad night for us and a loss…..we moved on. Missouri made T-shorts about it….ha ha ha! Mizzou is a joke.
You must not have watched the Mizzou game, we gave them all three of their scores.
Those things are correctable. BC was overmatched and we just game managed the second half.
We may have trailed to start but game never felt in doubt. At least it didn’t to me.
Vols are good this year; but before you go proclaiming superiority let’s remember the beat down we gave you last year.
Mizzou hasn’t clicked on offense yet but are 3-0 with a win against a top 25 team.
Let’s see how this all shakes out in the end. I like my Tigers. MIZ!
I remember you guys saying that last year too. You beat a few bottom feeder teams. You moved up in the rankings so they could hype up the OU game. Tenn will be lucky to see the playoffs
Hilarious comment, considering Mizzou has been significantly more successful than TAMU since joining the SEC. TAMU’s only contribution has been Johnny Football followed by a decade of disappointment. At least Mizzou has climbed out of their valley for the time being.
Speaking of success, what has Tennessee accomplished as an esteemed member of the greatest conference in CFB? Its current student body hasn’t had anything to brag about since before they were born. Keep living through the success Tenn had 20+ years ago. Maybe this is your year with Nico, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, the Vols will continue to be one of the most perennially overrated teams in CFB.
NIU is up to 23!
Three of those programs absolutely do not belong ranked ahead of Missouri !
Missouri beat Ohio State just a few months ago. Not 5 years ago, not 3 years ago, 8 fast months ago.
Wait there’s more, Missouri also beat Tennessee 8 months ago. Excuse me pretender KIf-Rif-Raf, did your boys beat Ohio State 8 months ago. Who is paying the cash to skip up in the rankings here?
Just keep telling everyone what you wish you were, Somebody’s going to be ready to make those boys back that up in a few short weeks! You’re providing your own payback energy in week 3. Not Smart either are you?
Anger over this poll slight has triggered your selective memory. Ohio St. was Big 10 #3. Iowa was Big 10 #2. Tennessee blanked Iowa 35-0 8 months ago with backups finishing the game. And the Tennessee team YOU played last year is gone. The polls are about respect. Tennessee is respected more at the moment.
This usually isn’t the case with Missouri being so highly ranked when 17 other teams are also undefeated. And despite the overall opinion that polls don’t matter this early in the season, we know they do slightly affect final position at the end of the year and officiating bias.
There are certain people who appear to have amnesia and not remember all the other seasons were certain teams compile stats and wins against lesser opponents only to see playoff hopes dashed before the end of October. What’s happened the past few weeks is not necessarily remarkable or indicative of anything — yet there are those who are already crowning themselves champions… by the middle of September.
1) Rankings matter little at this point.
2) In the mode of FAFO, when a team doesn’t look like they mean business, they could slip in the rankings-even with a win.
3) Last year’s results are meaningless for this year’s rankings.
I like what I’m seeing from Tennessee so far. They look like they mean business on both sides of the ball. Hope that this will travel well to Oklahoma. Heupel’s teams have struggled on the road and I expect that to be a loud, hostile environment.
THIS makes the most sense. Mizzou looked like children on Saturday. 2nd and 57?? Name another team who has faced that! And it was self-enforced! We need to shape up or be the laughing stock of the SEC.
