The Arch Manning era is finally set to officially begin down in the Lone Star State this afternoon when the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns take on the No. 3-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on the road at The Shoe in Columbus, Ohio.
Manning has been the subject of some pretty insane hype since he was still throwing the ball as a high schooler, and now his time to take over the reins of the Horns offense is finally here, and the hype is already beginning to reach new levels.
SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum just illustrated this perfectly on Saturday morning’s SEC Nation show, comparing the junior to one of the greatest college players of all time.
“[Arch Manning] is the best player we have seen from every aspect since Tim Tebow,” Finebaum said. “Maybe he’s not proven it yet. but in terms of magic, and majesty, and buzz, that’s where we are. People are going to be watching this game today who normally don’t watch a college football game.”
There have been some pretty insane comparisons between Manning and some other icons of the sport, but Finebaum might have just taken the cake here with his nod to Tebow. A former Florida Gator and Heisman Trophy winner, Tebow is arguably the greatest college QB of all time, and he also led the Gators to a national title, so this seems like a pretty high bar for Manning to reach.
Only time will tell if Manning can come close to reaching the lofty expectations both Finebaum and everybody else have thrust upon him, but a week 1 win against a top 3 opponent would undoubtedly be a great first step in attempting to live up to the hype.
