Paul Finebaum is an SEC guy through and through, but even he couldn’t have expected to see the day we did in the SEC on Saturday. Obviously, the massive upset was Alabama losing to Vanderbilt, but there was another surprising result with Tennessee losing at Arkansas.
The Volunteers couldn’t do anything offensively, scoring only 2 touchdowns in the 19-14 loss to the Razorbacks. During his weekly Sunday appearance on the Matt Barrie Show, Finebaum talked about how it was a missed opportunity for the Volunteers on Saturday night.
“I didn’t predict this one right either, but this upset was easier to see,” Finebaum said on the upsets that happened on Saturday in the SEC. “The NC State game was a fraud, because there was nothing to be learned. I thought winning in Norman really told us a lot about this program, but now, no.”
Both Tennessee and Alabama were the big losers in the SEC on Saturday, but they are both on a collision course to play in 2 weeks. They will both look to get back on the winning path next week. The Volunteers host the Florida Gators, while Alabama will host the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The game on October 19 between the 2 teams was already going to be big, but it is even more important now after both teams had stunning road losses.
As for the bigger picture, the loss hampers Tennessee’s outlook in the SEC with the Vols now +1600 in the latest 2024 SEC Championship odds produced by DraftKings. Texas (+125) and Georgia (+475) continue to lead the way, and fans can check out SDS’s TN betting sites to get in on the action.
