The Paul Finebaum Show continues to be one of the top radio broadcasts across the Southeast. And while Finebaum hosts many key coaches, players and figures throughout the SEC, it is the callers who always earn a special spotlight on the show.
That’s because Finebaum and his crew are not afraid to give fans a platform to speak their minds on anything and everything. That includes the outlook for Alabama football now that Nick Saban is gone and reactions to the latest stunning upset — or victory — by one’s heated rival.
Unfortunately, Finebaum announced during his live Monday broadcast that one longtime and iconic caller had passed away.
“Larry Wallace — ‘Larry from Shelby’ — not far away from where we sit, has passed away, according to several of his friends,” Finebaum revealed with a heavy heart. “We heard from Larry just last week. It was an absolutely heartbreaking and gut-wrenching call, but he was on oxygen, on a ventilator at the hospital but he wanted to call. We felt fairly certain it would be his final call, but we are so appreciative of him and his family for keeping us up to date.”
The past few years have featured similar somber moments for the show. In 2023, Finebaum paid homage to “Phyllis from Mulga,” an iconic Alabama fan and passionate caller of the show.
Paul Harvey lives in Atlanta and covers SEC football.
