ESPN’s Paul Finebaum discussed the ongoing Lane Kiffin situation during an appearance on ESPN on Monday.
A resolution on Kiffin’s situation is not expected to be announced until after the Egg Bowl on Friday. That means Ole Miss, LSU and Florida will all spend the week waiting for a final decision from Kiffin.
Finebaum, who has known Kiffin for years, called the saga a “circus” in this comments.
“The idea that a head football coach couldn’t be declarative or demonstrative about finishing the season and the playoffs is just truly baffling,” Finebaum said. “But remember, we are talking about Lane Kiffin here. There’s never been anyone like him. He acts like this is all news to him. He has been running this circus. He’s been the PT Barnum. All he has to do is say ‘I love it here. I just signed a 30 million year extension.’
“But he didn’t do that, which leads almost everyone to believe that he’s leaving for either LSU or Florida or another job that may come open before then.”
ESPN’s Matt Barrie then pressed Finebaum to make a prediction about what Kiffin will do.
“The conventional wisdom is LSU right now,” he said. “That’s what all the experts [say]. The same experts that were telling us 2 weeks ago that he was going to Florida. Florida seems like a better fit for him, but then again, is any place a good fit for Lane Kiffin considering the reputation that always seems to chase him around?”
Ole Miss and Mississippi State will face off in the Egg Bowl on Friday.
