Paul Finebaum made his regular Sunday morning appearance on ESPN, and updated the Heisman Trophy race after a thrilling win for Washington Saturday evening over Oregon.

“It was the biggest game of the year, it was the best game of the year and it was the biggest moment of the year by Michael Penix Jr.,” Finebaum said on the Sunday morning SportsCenter. “You cannot say, ‘Give him the Heisman,’ although I’m tempted to on this Sunday morning. But he now has at least one hand wrapped around it, and there are other big games that he will play and he has to continue to play well.”

Another contender, Caleb Williams of USC, struggled in a loss at Notre Dame.

“In a moment like that at Notre Dame, you can let the Heisman get away,” Finebaum said. “It’s hard to get it back when you start to go in the opposite direction.”

Finebaum also mentioned Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel, who has a huge win over Texas, and the ESPN commentator also suggested to not forget LSU QB Jayden Daniels.

“His team has 2 losses, but he is literally holding that team on his back,” Finebaum said. “His team will play Alabama in 3 weeks, so keep eye on him in that game.”
