The first of many head-to-head battles for Alabama commits Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa played out Friday night. We did a feature on both players, and you really should read it.

Tagovailoa’s team Thompson beat Tyson’s team Hewitt-Trussville 63-49, and the two Alabama QBs played well.

Tyson, the pure pocket passer and great grandson of Bear Bryant, certainly looked the part, throwing for three TDs and adding a rushing score, too.

Tagovailoa totaled 421 yards through the air and on the ground and totaling four TDs. While he is a true dual-threat QB, his quick release and pocket presence will remind you of his brother, Tua.

Behind Tyson, Hewitt-Trussville jumped out to a 28-0 lead, scoring TDs on their first four possessions, but that was before Tagovailoa got rolling. He brought his team all the way back to tie it at 35-35 late in the third quarter. Tagovailoa threw the game-winning TD with less than two minutes left in the game.

Here’s the go-ahead TD pass:

Thompson’s running game and defense took over in the second half.

Here’s Tyson throwing a long TD in the first half:

Here’s Tagovailoa’s 47-yard rushing TD in the first half:

The game featured six total Alabama commits, with the two QBs as the feature story.

This is just the first time these two QB commits will battle. Assuming both sign with Alabama, Tyson and Tagovailoa will fight it out to become Alabama’s next QB after Tua Tagovailoa has either gone to the NFL or graduated.
