Peter Burns was like the rest of college football fans on Saturday as he was tuned in to the overtime classic between Georgia and Tennessee. The two teams provided fans with an incredible college football game, with the quarterbacks Gunner Stockton and Joey Aguilar making all kinds of big plays all day.
Burns released his biggest takeaways from the conference in Week 3, and those two performances were among that list.
While he loved the offense in Knoxville, it was all about the defensive performance that LSU put on Saturday against Florida. The Tigers intercepted DJ Lagway five times, and have done an absolute 180 compared to last season’s defense.
When Alabama lost to Florida State in Week 1, there were all kind of ‘the sky is falling’ reactions from Crimson Tide fans. However, behind quarterback Tyler Simpson, the Crimson Tide have responded in a big way.
Simpson connected with Ryan Williams in a big way against Wisconsin, as the sophomore receiver finished with five catches, 165 yards and two touchdowns.
His final two takeaway come from the state of Texas. First, a shoutout to the Texas A&M Aggies winning a 41-40 thriller at Notre Dame to avenge last season’s loss in College Station. Quarterback Marcel Reed is emerging as a Heisman Trophy darkhorse, as he threw for 360 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday night’s win.
While things are great in College Station, things aren’t going as well in Austin. For the second time this year, Arch Manning had a very tough game. At one point, he threw nine straight incompletions, causing the Texas fans to boo.
It was a wild week in the SEC this past Saturday, but the craziness is just getting started.
