Despite some high profile arrests by former Missouri players Aldon Smith and Sheldon Richardson, Gary Pinkel reiterated Saturday that the current events are not a reflection of the Missouri football program.

As noted in a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch article:

“It’s not about the program,” he said. “It’s about my players. I love my players. We have a bunch of guys playing in the NFL who are doing awesome. We’ve got a bunch of guys on this team who do awesome. … They were great kids here. Never got in any trouble or anything like that. They’re having some problems. People have that. I just want them to get them fixed so they can have a great life.”

While Pinkel clearly supports his players, both former and current, he can’t be spending too much energy on the poor decision making of NFL stars making millions of dollars. The Missouri coaching staff has their hands full rebuilding the defensive line and improving the offense for a run at a third straight SEC East title.

Also, injured (car accident) DT Harold Brantley was with the team during practice providing support and leadership.
