Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville had an awkward moment with President Donald Trump during a recent press conference.
Tuberville was on hand when POTUS announced that Space Command headquarters is moving to Huntsville, Alabama. When mentioning Tuberville, U.S. Senator for the state of Alabama, Trump referenced the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
“Tommy Tuberville, who’s a great coach. And I won’t say anything about what happened with Alabama football this weekend. But you’re not used to that, right?” Trump said.
This was a bit awkward. While Tuberville represents the whole state of Alabama, it’s no secret that his college football allegiance is on the War Eagle side of the Iron Bowl rivalry.
Tuberville helped steer the President back on track by chiming in that Auburn won its Week 1 game.
“Auburn won, that’s right. So you’re happy,” Trump acknowledged.
Tuberville coached at Auburn from 1999-2008 and has been a senator since 2021. In 2024, Tuberville attended the Alabama-Georgia football game at Bryant-Denny Stadium alongside Trump and others.
