‘The Process’ works: Dont’a Hightower favorably compares Alabama and New England

After winning his fourth title in February, it’s fair to say Dont’a Hightower has grown quite accustomed to winning championships.
Despite entering the offseason as a free agent, the Patriot defender’s goal was to stay in New England to give him the best possible chance of adding to his trophy case. Now that he has been a member of two BCS National Championship teams at Alabama and two Super Bowl winners in New England, Hightower is looking for title five after signing a four-year, $43.5 million deal this offseason.
During his recent availability with New England media, Hightower expressed his belief that being a part of a championship caliber organization is all he knows. According to the Patriot defender, he wouldn’t want to be a part of anything less.
“It’s meant a lot. I’ve been here my whole career,” Hightower said according to Phil Perry of Pro Football Talk. “It wasn’t a hard change for what I had in college, so I was definitely used to it. So it wasn’t a big change. I feel like I’ve had a lot of success in programs like this. Alabama and New England are not too far different. The culture around here, the teammates, the coaches is second to none anywhere. When it came down to my decision, it wasn’t too hard of a choice.”
While there are no guarantees in football, it’s hard to argue that Hightower didn’t make the best possible decision to land ring #5 by resigning with the Patriots. Clearly, his time in Tuscaloosa helped him prepare not only for the rigors of the NFL but how to contribute to a championship level organization.
