Punters are leaders too: Billy Napier praises Florida specialist’s leadership skills

Punters everywhere are eager to remind fans that “punters are people too.” Florida coach Billy Napier has found that punters can be leaders as well.
During his Monday radio show, Napier named third-year punter Jeremy Crawshaw as one of the Gators’ leaders. Kevin Brockway of The Gainesville Sun shared the tidbit on Twitter.
On radio show, @coach_bnapier says P Jeremy Crawshaw is a good leader, “guys respect him. he’s got some leadership skills which is unique as a punter.” #Gators

Crawshaw, from New South Wales, Australia, joined the Gators ahead of the 2020 season. He redshirted that fall.
Last season, Crawshaw earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team. He appeared in all 13 games, punting 52 times with a 44.1-yard average, including 20 punts of 50-plus yards (long of 69) and 20 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Crawshaw and the Gators open the 2022 campaign against No. 7 Utah on Saturday night in Gainesville. It’s good for a team if it doesn’t punt often, but it sounds like Napier’s squad has a leader in its specialist from down under.
