Auburn defeated South Alabama 31-15 on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 record.
Although the Tigers only won by 2 scores, this game was never in doubt. Auburn led 28-9 at the half and was able to secure a relatively painless victory over the Jaguars.
Auburn’s offense was better in the first half than it was after the break. The Tigers averaged 6.3 yards per play in the first couple of quarters as it extended its lead to multiple scores. Quarterback Jackson Arnold scored 2 more rushing touchdowns on the day while also throwing a touchdown to sophomore Cam Coleman.
In the second half, Auburn’s offense slowed down considerably. The Tigers averaged just 3.6 yards per play after the break and went 0-for-4 on third down.
Fortunately for Auburn, its defense stepped up. The Tigers held South Alabama to just 4.2 yards per play in the second half and forced a key turnover. Keyron Crawford notably finished the game with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and an interception.
